"Needs Assessment" is the term used to describe the three-step process churches use to discover the ministry opportunities around them.
Step 1 involves surveying the church congregation to reveal the strengths and skill sets that God has placed in the local church body.
Step 2 is a survey of agencies, schools, and ministries in the neighborhood around the church field.
Step 3 takes all the findings from the first two steps, places them in a one-page survey that is taken to the residents of the neighborhoods around the church.
The results of these surveys are compiled and presented to the church as a tool to guide them in planning ministries that can meet the real needs of those living in their neighborhood. All surveys and procedures can be adapted to best fit the context of each individual church.
